Tyler Farr shares the behind-the-scenes story of how he and Blake Shelton both wanted to record “A Guy Walks into a Bar.” (1:01) (note content)
“Funny story behind ‘[A] Guy Walks into a Bar’ is that me and Blake Shelton literally, not literally, fought over the song ’cause he would probably kill me; he’s much larger. He’s more like a polar bear, and I’m like a honey badger. But he was supposed to have it on hold, I had it on hold before him, and then he was…it got pitched to him somehow. It happens a lot in Nashville, and it was just a mistake that was made, but by God I had the thing on hold first, and I was gonna cut it. I knew Blake would understand, and he was fine, but do not think for a second that he did not give me a pile of crap about that the first time he saw me and the actual first time we got to hang out, which was in Miranda [Lambert]’s Airstream trailer backstage on the Burn It Down tour. And he’s like, ‘All right, you SOB song-stealer, let’s hear it.’ And I played it for him, and he sang every word to it, and he said, ‘Couldn’t have done it better myself.’ He said, ‘That was meant for you.’ But just havin’ his approval on it and him actually saying, you know, ‘Well done, Sir,’ meant a lot to me.”
