Villain In Me: Intro Audio
Villain In Me: Story Audio
“Villain In Me” is definitely the most personal song that I’ve ever written. It’s a lot easier to just sing about than it is to talk about, but musics my safe place and being able to kind of talk about the struggles that I face with the voices that are in my head telling me I’m not good enough, or, you know, just kind of going through those thoughts through this past year and a bit of spending a lot of time alone, with those more uncomfortable and vulnerable emotions, music is my place to put those emotions. And I’m grateful for this song and the way that it’s kind of pulling that out of me in a in a different way. I wrote the song with my friend Alex Hope over zoom. I had this title in my phone for a while, and we were talking about what it could mean. And the more we talked about it, the more I was, like, honestly afraid of it and going through this is this is getting personal. And that’s the thing about music to me, it’s a sacred thing to write a song and I trust the music and I feel like I was putting my heels in a little bit as the song was dragging me through the writing process. Honestly, the recording process I did the the vocal and the guitar for just a work tape at home in my house and sent the files across the distance. And then when I decided that the song was what I wanted to release next, it was like okay, let’s take it into the studio and record it for real. And I recorded it multiple times in studios and could not shake the fact that the most raw version of that vocal was the one that I did immediately after I wrote the song sitting in my room. So that’s the one that ended up on the recording. So honestly, this whole song is felt like a little bit of a wrestle. And it’s my greatest hope with the song that it could be an invitation or a comfort to somebody listening to it out there who wrestles with similar things. I’m very much in the middle of the process of figuring that out and hope people feel like they can join me in that.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Award-winning singer/songwriter Tenille Townes is sharing one of her most personal releases to date with her new song, “Villain In Me.” Listen here and watch here

“This song terrifies me, but I feel more hungry for honesty than I ever have in my life before and that hunger is carrying me to a much more personal anchor in my songwriting,” said Townes. “I’ve come to know the Villain in my head very well over this past year and a bit. The lonely time at home forced me to sit in the uncomfortable and vulnerable emotions and this song is a safe place for me to be open about it. It’s not something I like to talk about but writing and singing about it makes it easier.”

Co-written with Alex Hope, who also produced the track, “Villain In Me” follows the ACM Award winner’s summer release “Girl Who Didn’t Care,” which was celebrated by Rolling StoneTennesseanAmerican SongwriterCowgirl MagazineMusicRowTaste of CountrySounds Like NashvilleCountry Now, and many more.

The prolific songwriter is currently on the road with Brothers Osborne and recently announced her first ever headlining U.S. tour, the 11-city VILLAIN IN ME TOUR, kicking off Jan. 19 in Cambridge, MA.
