This ACM for New Female Artist of the Year means so much to me. I still can’t even believe it’s real life. It feels like the craziest and most wonderful embrace from the community of country music that I just love and respect and admire so much. And, I’m so grateful to get to be celebrating this. Hearing the news from Keith Urban on a Zoom call that I thought was just going to be an interview and then he popped up on the screen was the most wonderful surprise and craziest thing. I will never forget hearing this news from him and just seeing the smile on his face and feeling my hands shake and man, just being so excited. My heart feels so very happy right now. I think this feels especially surreal because as a kid, you know, I’d watch the ACMs and I would see my heroes perform and just think about what that could feel like far off, someday. And, the fact that this someday has rolled around is incredibly surreal and just so amazing to me. And especially, with all that the ACM represents in my eyes. It’s like that’s the history and foundation of country music is coming together for special events like that and honoring the history of music that’s created through time and it’s just really overwhelming to think about all that the ACM represents and mean to me experiencing this right now.

In Case You Missed It: Watch as Townes gets the good news from Keith Urban.

NASHVILLE, Tenn.—Breakthrough singer, songwriter and musician Tenille Townes is the winner of New Female Artist of the Year at the 55th Academy of Country Music Awards. This year’s awards host, Keith Urban, surprised Townes with the news via zoom. Watch the full exchange HERE

Townes joins an impressive list of winners in the category including previous recipients Ashley McBryde, Lauren Alaina, Maren Morris and Kelsea Ballerini. Of the honor, Townes shares, “I’ll always remember this feeling, standing here as a new artist. I feel so honoured and incredibly grateful just to be a part of this country music community that inspires me. Receiving this ACM Award feels like belief from that community, and that means so much to me.”

Still to come, Townes is also nominated for Musical Event of the Year for “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” with Miranda Lambert, Maren Morris, Ashley McBryde, Caylee Hammack and Elle King at this year’s ACM Awards. Townes will also perform during the awards ceremony, which will air Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 8:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. CT on CBS.

This record is the dream that I had when I was a seven-year-old kid singing along in the backseat of the car. She would really be freaking out right now.”

In celebration of the album release, Townes recently raised $89,000 during her virtual “Big Hearts For Big Kids” fundraiser with all proceeds benefitting two organizations: Sunrise House (a local youth shelter in Townes’ hometown of Grande Prairie, Alberta) and Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee’s Troop 6000 (an initiative that supports girls without permanent housing in the Nashville area). In the eleven years since Townes started the annual fundraiser, “Big Hearts For Big Kids” has raised over $2 million. Hosted at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium, the event featured Townes performing songs from the new album as well as special at-home performances from Dierks Bentley, Brandi Carlile, Luke Combs, Andy Grammer, Mickey Guyton, Caylee Hammack, Ashley McBryde, Lori McKenna, Chrissy Metz, John Osborne and Lucie Silvas.
