OLD DOMINION TALKS ABOUT “COMING HOME” AND THEIR NEW VIDEO FOR THE SONG
What is the Universal Message of “Coming Home”?
Yeah. I mean, I just feel home is a probably, it’s got to be the most powerful thing. I mean, you could be anywhere. You could be, you know, on vacation and in Paris and, you know, at the top of the Eiffel Tower and whatever, and then eventually you towards the end of your trip, you just go, “God, get me out of here.” That’s ready to go. You can’t wait to be home and then you go back to wherever it is. It could be a little apartment or whatever, and it’s just like it’s got to be built into our, you know, human nature, a DNA somewhere that, it’s a pretty powerful thing, you know? So I think that’s why it’s easy to connect to for everybody.
What does the idea of “Coming Home” mean to you?
I’d say a lot, you know, with, you know, most of us have kids too. So it’s, you know, a lot of time away from home that it took to get this thing off the ground. So I’d say the older they get, you know, and the more as time goes on, the more valuable and precious it is to have that time. So yeah, Trevor and I both just dropped our kids off at college, and that’s mind blowing. And it does sort of force you to reflect on, you know, all the time missed too, you know. We missed a lot of stuff and we tried really hard to be present for everything that we could, even when we were gone. So it sort of forces you into that and it does add the gravity to the time at home for sure.
How was filming the music video for “Coming Home”?
We just filmed the video for that song on an aircraft carrier and we, we just decided that we were going to, instead of doing the traditional video shoot where you pretend to play the song, we reached out to the Navy and said, we want to come play a concert on a boat. So they provided the biggest warship, in the world, and we were on the USS Gerald R Ford and, and performed a concert, for all the sailors and in the middle of it, we said, you know, “Surprise! We’re shooting a video, so we’re going to play this song five times in a row. So”, and it was incredible, you know, to see them and they were so grateful that we were there to entertain them. They have incredibly difficult lives and the stories that they would tell us about being on deployment and how hard it is to be away. It was such the right choice, for the video of this song. So I think we have a lot of that in our future with this song and I’m so looking forward to it.
