OLD DOMINION: Big Risk Means Big Reward

audio

The guys in Old Dominion are not only known for making great music, but they’re also known for writing great songs too–and not just for their band. The guys have written hit songs for Kenny Chesney, Tyler Farr, Blake Shelton and others. But before that success came, the guys had to make a major decision that may have seemed risky at the time, but has paid off in a big way. Trevor Rosen from Old Dominion says that they made the choice to “just make songs that we would like, no matter what they sound like whether they sound like country radio or whatever.” That gamble paid off, with not only success with other artists, but the songs on Old Dominion’s debut album, Meat and Candy as well. Their songwriting has given Old Dominion a signature sound on their number-one hit “Break Up With Him,” their smash hit “Snapback,” and their current top-ten hit “Song For Another Time.”

“We just finally at some point you know were not getting cuts anyway and whatever so let’s just make songs that we would like, no matter what they sound like whether they sound like country radio or whatever. If we like it lets write it and let’s record it. So that’s a little bit of a risk. You think it is at the time and that turned out being the best decision you could possibly make.”
