OLD DOMINION: Another Championship For A Team

audio

Super Bowl 51 this past Sunday was unforgettable for many people for many reasons. For the some it will be the game, and the historic comeback by the New England Patriots coming from 25 points down to beat the Atlanta Falcons in overtime to capture the franchise’s record 5th Super Bowl title. For some it will be the commercials that played during the breaks. For others it will be the amazing half-time show by Lady Gaga. But for the guys in Old Dominion, their most vivid memories will be of what happened after the game. Old Dominion was personally invited by the New England Patriots owners, the Kraft family, to play an exclusive after party when the Super Bowl finished. Old Dominion lead singer Matthew Ramsey says that after playing Gillette Stadium, the home of the Patriots, for the last two years with Kenny Chesney, the guys got to know the Kraft family, and the Kraft family got to know…and love…the music of Old Dominion. Matthew jokes that they rode the coattails of Kenny Chesney, and have now been embraced by the fans of the New England area, and they got to have a once in a lifetime experience playing for the team, and the Krafts after one of the most memorable Super Bowls in NFL history.

PS– Kenny Chesney didn’t miss the fun. While he wasn’t in Houston performing, he could be seen in the New England Patriots suite standing next to owner Robert Kraft.

“The once in a lifetime experience, getting to play the Patriots Superbowl party. We were so excited when we got that offer, we jumped at it. It was a whirlwind, it was 24 hours up…just going, going, going, and waiting, waiting, waiting. But the party was a blast. The game was unbelievable. It was a once in a lifetime experience, like I said.”

“The atmosphere in the room was just…you know there was energy, there were a lot of smiles, people were so excited because everyone had thought the game was going to end one way, and then the biggest come back in NFL, well, in Super Bowl history happened. So, everyone was just so excited, and cheering and so excited to see the players, and so excited to see the Krafts with the Super Bowl trophy, and it was a blast.”

“I think the whole thing came about because of the Kenny Chesney tour honestly. We’ve been on tour with Kenny for two years and we played Gillette Stadium, and for whatever reason in that area, we have sort of been adopted a little bit. We’ve ride Kenny’s coattails into that, he has a special relationship with the whole New England area, and the Patriots and Gillette Stadium. I think we sort of rode those coattails right on in there and they’ve adopted us and our music, and have embraced us. The Kraft family themselves really like our music, so we’ve been invited to come do that, so we jumped. Like I said it was really unbelievable.”
