Q&A with Matthew Ramsey about the “7 For 7 Residency”

What made you guys want to put together theses shows?
We wanted to put together these shows just to honor the seven consecutive wins at the CMA. We wanted to do seven consecutive shows and chose seven charities just to give back a little piece of, you know, what we’ve been given. We’re so blessed with so much in this life and this career. This just seemed like a really cool way for us to celebrate it with our fans and with the town of Nashville and give back to, a lot of really, really great organizations.

How did you guys get this idea that every show would benefit a charity?
It was just, we thought of the seven charities, just, out of just conversations. Sometimes this idea sort of came together kind of fast, and we’re just spitballing different ways to celebrate it and, we knew for sure they wanted to be a charity component to it. And then, it was just brought to the table, the idea of playing off of that number seven after the seven wins. So seven charities, seemed to make sense.

Can you talk a bit about these charities and what they mean to you?
All of these charities. We had no, that was probably the quickest thing that we decided was, was charities, to give to because a lot of them really speak to us. Obviously, you know, there’s the CMA charity, you know, and the way that they give back to music education and we’ve got everything from, you know, St Jude obviously is such a huge, huge part of our story. We were just, you know, we were just honored by them. There’s the Opry Trust Fund and Backline Cares, which helps give, mental health care to touring musicians and, you know, Music Cares and Save the Music, who’ve we’ve worked with a bunch and and even my own foundation, Ramsey Foundation, which you know, will provide and has provided, a lot of food and, and low income areas and, resources to public schools, music and arts departments. And so, it’s really, really special to be able to give back to these charities.

Can you tell us what fans can expect to at these shows?
Can’t really tell you what to expect at these shows, we don’t really know exactly how they’re going to go. Playing two shows a day for three days in a row, and then one, to cap it all off at the end where we want them all to be different. I think we’re going to make it pretty loosey goosey and kind of just fly by the seat of our pants and play what people want to hear, take requests, maybe have some guests. Just kind of make it kind of a really laid back, really fun family gathering.

How did it feel winning your 7th consecutive CMA Award?
It felt like a relief for one, because there were so many nerves going into this one, which normally doesn’t happen to that degree, but we knew that the record was on the line for consecutive wins, and, we knew we wanted that. So it was really, really gratifying. It felt. It felt amazing.

Do you have a message for your fans who have supported you throughout this journey?
Yeah, we always have a message for our fans. We love you, and thank you so much. We can’t wait to celebrate this with you. We can’t wait to get back on tour and see your faces. We miss you and the way you’ve made our music a part of your lives. It’s really, really special thing to see and makes us feel like we have created something really unique together. That will live for a really, really long time. So thank you for that.
