Mitchel Tenpenny:
The concept was mainly Justin (Key)’s idea. I told him I wanted a “Fight Club” kind of 1975 robbers video-like aesthetic. And, he nailed it. I mean he did “Drunk Me” for us so we knew he could capture that cinematic element of a song that’s very important when you’re doing a music video and he’s just so good at that. So, I couldn’t be happier with the way it turned out. Justin just has, you know, the touch for these type of things and I was very excited when we saw the final product. There’s two reason why we chose to use a real couple in the video. One being that during Covid times and all the regulations, it’s hard to get people to interact and be safe. But even more than that, I wanted a real couple because I wanted the audience to really believe what they were watching. And, I think this couple did a fantastic job doing that. This song is all about making you believe what’s happening. You need to feel the pain. And, with a real couple, they’ve probably been there before. They’ve probably had these arguments and you can kind of see that in the video.
