MIRANDA LAMBERT: Making Friends Myself

audio

“We Should Be Friends” is the second single from Miranda Lambert‘s The Weight Of These Wings, but it’s the last song she wrote for her recently released double album. In fact, when she was writing it, she wanted her mom to hear it…at 1 in the morning! Miranda says that she woke her mom up and said “‘Hey, I need you to hear this. It’s the last one. I’m cuttin’.” Miranda says that she wrote the song on her own, and while it started out with a reflective tone, it ended up taking a turn into a musical party.

audio  Miranda Lambert shares the story behind the writing of “We Should Be Friends.” (:28)
“That’s actually the last song I wrote for the record. I woke my mom up at 1 am and I was like ‘Hey, I need you to hear this. It’s the last one. I’m cuttin’. It’s the last week in the studio.’ I wanted one that I wrote alone that was really reflective of the people in my life and me. It started as kind of a sad song but then I just had a party all by myself with my guitar and it turned out to be that. (laugh)”
