Next Wednesday will be a memorable night for Miranda Lambert, no matter what! November 10th is Miranda’s 27th birthday, and she might have the best birthday ever with her nine nominations at The 44th Annual CMA Awards. Miranda is the first woman in CMA history to rack up nine nominations in the same year — she’s nominated for Single, Song, Music Video, Musical Event (for “Bad Angel” with Dierks Bentley and Jamey Johnson), Album (for Revolution), Female Vocalist, and Entertainer of the Year. Miranda — who has never won a CMA award — has a pair of nominations in both the Single and Music Video categories for her number-one hits “The House That Built Me” and “White Liar.” Both songs also landed in the Song of the Year category, earning a nod for Miranda and co-writer Natalie Hemby for “White Liar” and a nomination for writers Tom Douglas and Allen Shamblin for “The House That Built Me.”
While each of the nominations means a lot to Miranda, she’s additionally excited because her tally of nine CMA nominations in a single year matches a record first set 40 years ago (in 1970) by her musical hero Merle Haggard (only Alan Jackson has surpassed that mark, earning 10 nods in 2002). Tune-in Wednesday, November 10th, to see The 44th Annual CMA Awards live on ABC-TV. (AUDIO INFO BELOW)
- With her birthday and the CMA Awards being on the same day, Miranda’s already done some number-crunching and realized that the awards are on the 10th…in 2010…and this is the tenth year since she formed a band and embarked on her music career!
Miranda Lambert shared her first reaction to the news that she’s nominated for nine CMA awards, including Entertainer of the Year. (:33) (audio is phone quality)
“It’s just hard to believe, because it’s so many, and it’s so many big ones. I guess the most shocking, obviously, was Entertainer of the Year, because at first I didn’t really feel like it was time for me to get nominated for something like that, you know? It just doesn’t seem like it was real at first, so I guess I’m coming to terms with it at this point, but I just can’t believe it.”
Miranda Lambert shares some perspective on her nominations — and her fellow nominees. (:36) (audio is phone quality)
“I’m so thankful that my peers in the industry felt like I deserved this many accolades, this much recognition for what I’m doing. I mean, that means the world. It absolutely means the world. A lot of these people that I’m in these categories with are my friends, that I made on the road, and that I’ve toured with, that I’ve spent time with, and written songs with, and it’s really cool that we’re going up against each other, but we’re so close. I think to be nominated it’s awesome, but if you lose, at least you’re losing to your buddy (laughs), and so I think that’s what’s so cool about country music, and I felt it’s just amazing.”
Miranda Lambert can’t get over the fact that she’s set a new female record and earned as many CMA award nominations as her idol Merle Haggard did during one of the biggest years of his career. (:20) (audio is phone quality)
“I think my favorite part about the whole thing is that I’ve set the record, I’ve tied with my hero, my ultimate hero, which is Merle Haggard, for nine nominations in the history of the CMAs. That’s just so fitting for me, and I’m hoping that sets my career up for one as long as Merle Haggard’s, because it’s a huge deal.”
