COLD AS YOU: Work Parts

Story Behind The Song VIDEO: “Cold As You”

Story Behind The Song AUDIO: “Cold As You”
“Cold As You,” I wrote this song with two of the same guys that I wrote “Beer Never Broke My Heart” with, I think it’s very similar. The idea was actually Shane Minor’s idea, and he’s a really awesome guy and was willing to let me and Jonathan (Singleton) and Randy (Montana) kind of take the little bit of a start that he had and run with it. And I’m super pumped to have another kickass song with two of my favorite guys and one of my new buddies in Shane Minor.

Story Behind The Song VIDEO: “The Other Guy”

Story Behind The Song AUDIO: “The Other Guy”
“The Other Guy” was a song that I wrote probably three and a half years ago. I wrote it with Brandon Kinney and Rob Williford, and it’s kind of bounced all over the place. It was just kind of in between This One’s For You, and my buddy Job was going to cut it for a while, and he ended up doing it, and something happened there, and it got picked up by a few other people along the way. When it came down to making this deluxe, it was just a song that I had always thought was great, and it had always just kind of been in this kind of state of limbo where somebody was going to do it, and then they weren’t, and so I figured that I would just do it, so I hope everybody loves it.

Story Behind The Song VIDEO: “My Kinda Folk”

Story Behind The Song AUDIO: “My Kinda Folk”
“My Kinda Folk” is an idea that actually my guitar tech brought to me. He had started it with my friend Dan Isbell and sent it my way, and JD is his name, Jamie Davis. He and Dan came out here with one of my utility players, Dustin Nunley, and Ray Fulcher was living down the street at that time so he walked up, and the five of us finished the song. It’s probably one of my favorite songs that we’ve ever done, it’s really different than anything I think that we’ve done, and it’s just one of those fun, good time anthems. It’s got a lot of instrumental stuff going on in it, and I can’t wait for y’all to hear it.

WITHOUT YOU (feat. Amanda Shires): Work Parts

Story Behind The Song AUDIO: “Without You” (feat. Amanda Shires)
“Without You” is a song that I wrote probably a year and a half ago in the mountains of North Carolina with Wyatt Durrette and Dan Isbell. I just really wanted to, along with “This One’s For You,” is always have that song that lets everyone know how appreciative I am of where I am. The first verse is about my parents, and second verse is about my wife, and the third verse is about you, the fans, so just wanted to thank everybody that I feel like has helped me get to this point.

Story Behind The Song VIDEO: “Forever After All”

Story Behind The Song AUDIO: “Forever After All”
“Forever After All” is the first song that I wrote in my house in Tennessee. I wrote it with Rob Williford and Drew Parker, and it’s one of those songs that we’ve been trying to hold back for a long time and not play, and we knew how much we loved it and how much we thought people would like it, so I’m glad that everybody’s finally going to get a chance to hear it. It’s just kind of a continuance of that love story that you’ve heard in “Beautiful Crazy” and “Better Together,” so y’all enjoy it.

Luke Combs’ anticipated new deluxe album, What You See Ain’t Always What You Get, is out today on River House Artists/Columbia Nashville. Stream/purchase HERE. The special extended edition features all 18 songs from Combs’ platinum-certified, global No. 1 record, What You See Is What You Get, as well as five new tracks including a collaboration with Amanda Shires.

In celebration of the release, Combs will perform a special livestream concert tonight at 7:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. CT via his Facebook page. Combs’ first full-band performance since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the event is free to view with all donations made during the show benefitting The Recording Academy’s MusiCares.

The new deluxe album continues a series of groundbreaking and historic years for Combs, who recently won three awards at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards: Top Country Artist, Top Country Male Artist and Top Country Album (What You See Is What You Get), two awards at the 55th ACM Awards: Album of the Year (What You See Is What You Get) and Male Artist of the Year, and is nominated for six awards at the 54th CMA Awards including Entertainer of the Year.

Continuing his triumphant run at country radio, Combs’ single, “Lovin’ On You,” recently spent multiple weeks at No. 1 on both the Mediabase/Country Aircheck chart and the Billboard Country Airplay chart. This is Combs’ ninth-consecutive No. 1 single—a first on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart—as well as his eighth single to spend multiple weeks atop the chart, sixth-consecutive, multi-week No. 1 and fourth single to spend four or more weeks at No. 1. Moreover, his current single, “Better Together,” is already top 25 at country radio and rising.

Combs also recently made history as the first artist ever to have their first two studio albums spend 25 weeks or more at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart—breaking Taylor Swift’s previously held record at 24 weeks. The achievement comes as What You See Is What You Get topped the chart for the 25th time earlier this summer, while his 2017 debut, This One’s For You, has spent 50 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1—tying the record for the longest reign atop the chart with Shania Twain’s Come On Over in 1997.

Additional notable achievements and recognitions: Recent winner of three iHeartRadio Music Awards: Country Artist of the Year, Country Album of the Year (What You See Is What You Get) and Country Song of the Year (“Beautiful Crazy”). What You See Is What You Get enjoyed the largest streaming week ever for a country album with 74 million on-demand streams upon its release in November 2019. It also achieved the biggest first week of album streams ever for a country artist on Apple Music and was the first country album ever to hit No. 1 on the platform’s U.S. overall albums chart, while also setting a new global record for first-week streams for a country album at Spotify and breaking the Amazon Music record for more first-week streams than any other country album debut.Only country artist to perform on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” Season 45Inducted as a member of the Grand Ole Opry last summerAwarded CMT Performance of the Year at the 2019 CMT Music Awards for his CMT
