KIX BROOKS: A Comin’ to Town

This Thanksgiving weekend, on Saturday, November 24th, Kix Brooks returns to his native Louisiana to headline a benefit concert called Instruments a Comin’, with 100 percent of show proceeds going toward the purchase of musical instruments for outstanding school music programs and marching bands in the Shreveport and Bossier City, Louisiana, area, through the Tipitina’s Foundation. And while Kix really began playing solo shows for the first time again earlier this year, he admits that it was definitely an adjustment after 20 years of performing with his Brooks & Dunn partner, Ronnie Dunn. • Saturday’s benefit show at the Shreveport Municipal Auditorium will also feature Sonny Landreth. For more information on the show and the program, visit TipitinasFoundation.org.
  • The Shreveport Times quotes Kix, who says of the benefit concert, “These young people need a healthy place to go and grow. Music can provide that place, but instruments are expensive.” Kix was also quoted, saying, “I couldn’t be more excited about coming back to Shreveport … and being able to put instruments in the hands of school kids. It is as good as it gets.”
  • Kix is brand-new on the radio with the song “Moonshine Road,” the latest single from Kix’s solo album, New to This Town, available now!

“Doin’ what I’m doin’, it is kinda like ridin’ a bicycle, and I hadn’t ridden that bicycle in a long time. So, those first couple of shows after Ronnie and I quit tourin’…you know, it was like, boy, this is…yeah, okay, I gotta sing all night long, you know? It’s all me now, and…but after a couple of shows, it was just like…it seems like yesterday when I was in college playin’ those clubs and havin’ my own bands, and you’re just right back in action, and it feels good.”
