Just like fans have fallen in love with Kenny Chesney‘s latest smash, “You and Tequila,” Kenny says that he had first fallen in love with the voice and music of Grace Potter — the woman who sings with him on “You and Tequila.” And while Kenny didn’t know Grace personally, he says that when he reached out about the idea of recording the song with him, things came together in a flash. - “You and Tequila” is another amazing reason to pick up Kenny’s Hemingway’s Whiskey album, which already features three number-one hits with “Somewhere with You,” “Live a Little,” and “The Boys of Fall.”
- Fun Fact: Did you know…that “You and Tequila” was written by Deana Carter and hit songwriter (and recording artist in her own right) Matraca (m?-tray-s?) Berg? Matraca, incidentally, was a co-writer on another alcohol-themed favorite, Deana’s number-one single from 1996, “Strawberry Wine”! Deana shares the story of “You and Tequila” in a feature for the “Behind the Song” page in the August 15th issue of Country Weekly, on sale now.
- This month, Kenny is winding down the final dates on his summerlong blockbuster “Goin’ Coastal” Tour, which wraps August 27th with a sold-out date at Foxboro, Massachusetts’ Gillette Stadium.
Kenny Chesney says that things happened fast when it came to recording “You and Tequila” with Grace Potter. (:19)
“On my boat, down in the Virgin Islands, I listen to all kinds of music, and there was this girl…this girl’s voice that I just fell in love with, and I didn’t know really anything about her that much. I just knew that I really loved her singin’ and loved her records. And her name was Grace Potter. And I got in touch with her and played her the song, and literally, three days later, she was in Nashville, and we recorded it.”
