KENNY CHESNEY: The Sun Is Shining

audio

Congratulations to Kenny Chesney, whose latest smash, “Save It for a Rainy Day,” tops this week’s Billboard Country Airplay chart to become his 26th Billboard number-one single! The song also marks the first time that Kenny has ever had four consecutive chart-toppers from the same album. Recently nominated for CMA Album of the Year, Kenny’s The Big Revival features “Save It for a Rainy Day,” as well as the number-one hits “Til It’s Gone,” “Wild Child,” and “American Kids.”

  • In earlier Prep Site postings, Kenny has talked about “Save It for a Rainy Day.” (AUDIO INFO BELOW)
  • Did you know…? While this is the first time that Kenny’s earned four number-one hits in a row from the same album, he also sent four non-consecutive hits to the top spot with “The Boys of Fall,” “Somewhere with You,” “Live a Little,” and “Reality” — all from his acclaimed 2010 album, Hemingway’s Whiskey.
  • By the way… “Save It for a Rainy Day” was co-written by Andrew Dorff and two members of Kenny’s 2015 and 2016 stadium tour openers Old Dominion: Matthew Ramsey and Brad Tursi.

“‘Save It for a Rainy Day’ — I felt like that the message of the song was very important, because I have been the person in this song now…a lot. And I think that if you set in negativity too long, or whatever’s bothering you or whatever’s kind of weighin’ down your life — whether it’s, you know, all the anxiety and the stress, you know — I think if you set in all that too long, you can become it. It can become your life — and that’s not good (laughs), you know?”

audio  Kenny Chesney says that “Save It for a Rainy Day” is all about setting aside your worries, at least for a little while. (:24)
“Sometimes all you need is a sunny day, a boat full of friends, some cold beer, and good music. Not sayin’ all that’s gonna get rid of your pain, but it will help you push that pain away for at least a day. And just the idea of the song, I’ll save all that — everything that’s weighin’ me down — I’ll save that stuff for a day that I don’t have my friends or this sunny day or this boat trip or this cold beer, whatever it is.”

audio  Kenny Chesney hasn’t always followed the advice of “Save It for a Rainy Day.” (:11)
“I like to think that I’ve lived my life like that, but I will tell ya that sometimes I have done the complete, exact opposite of this (laughs), but I’ve also lived this song a lot, too.”
