Kenny Chesney released his new collection of songs that he recorded in concert over the last decade this past Friday. Live! In No Shoes Nation has some of Kenny’s favorite moments from his concerts from the past 10 years, moments he recorded when he didn’t know they would end up on a live album. One of those moments was his performance of “Pirate Flag” from Tortuga Music Festival, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, that he recorded on April 13, 2013. Kenny shares “’Pirate Flag’ has always been a really fun moment in our show, but when we did it in Lotterdale down on the beach in 2013, that crowd was insane, that crowd was so in the moment, the Atlantic Ocean was to our right, there was a sea of people in front of me…. And when we hit that chorus of “Pirate Flag” and literally I talking about my own life how I grew up in East Tennessee and spent a lot of time in the islands and when I go into that chorus, I spent my whole life running around… when I heard that on stage that night, I knew we were recording it, and I knew that moment if I ever did a live record because then I didn’t know that I was going to do one, but I remember having that thought on stage when I heard that crowd sing the chorus back to me, that if I ever did a live record that this song, that night, this moment that experience was going to be on that live record one day.” For more on his brand new album, Live!
