Kenny Chesney has one of the most beautiful songs of his career with his new single, “Wild Child,” which reunites him with his “You and Tequila” duet partner, Grace Potter. And while Kenny originally recorded “Wild Child” without Grace, he soon realized that she was the ideal choice to bring something really extraordinary to the song, both vocally and personally. Kenny Chesney says that there’s a lot of Grace Potter in the spirit of his new single, “Wild Child.” (:39)
“When we recorded the song ‘Wild Child,’ and when it was done, we didn’t have anybody on it yet, but I felt like that I needed someone to have that…the other voice, the character that I’m talkin’ about in the song. And as much as I didn’t want to revisit a song with Grace Potter because, you know, ‘You and Tequila’ was such a huge hit, and she actually sang harmony on ‘El Cerrito Place,’ she was perfect for this song because there’s a lot of Grace in the song ‘Wild Child.’ You know, there’s a lot of her heart and the way she lives her life in this song. And there’s so many layers to her — and all of ’em are great. She could be sittin’ up there playin’ piano singin’ a great song, but then again, she’s up there playin’ a Flying V and rockin’ out.”
Kenny Chesney says that Grace Potter was a perfect choice to sing on his new single, “Wild Child.” (:34)
“You know, Grace’s voice was just perfect on this song, and I’m really proud that she’s on it. And it’s so authentic that she’s on it because she’s a lot like that character we wrote about in this song, I feel like. And just the way our voices blend, it’s hard for me to explain how that happens, you know, because we grew up in completely different places, but I think our voices blend really well together, and I think ‘Wild Child’ is a perfect example of that. And a lot of the women out there that are listening, you know, I think that there’s something they’re gonna be able to take out of this song and apply to their life. They might find a little bit of themselves in this song, maybe.”
