JAKE OWEN: Days of Gold: Jake’s New Album Is Almost Here!

audio

Jake Owen’s new album, Days of Gold, releases tomorrow, December 3rd! It’s the follow-up to Jake’s big breakthrough album, Barefoot Blue Jean Night, which launched four consecutive number-one hits, and Jake tells us that even though he became a dad for the first time since the release of his last album, fatherhood hasn’t changed his approach to making the kind of music that’s brought him to where he is now. (AUDIO INFO BELOW)

  • Jake says that he puts a lot of thought not only into what songs to record on an album, but how to arrange them to create a really cool listening experience. (AUDIO INFO BELOW)
  • Jake felt like the song “Days of Gold” would make for a great title track and a great way to kick off the new album. (AUDIO INFO BELOW)
  • In support of the new album, Jake will be making a cross-country swing for multiple TV appearances, including VH1’s Big Morning Buzz on December 3rd and ABC’s Good Morning America on December 4th, followed by a performance of “Days of Gold” on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! on December 5th.
  • In addition to the 12-song version of Jake’s Days of Gold album, there’s also a deluxe edition featuring four bonus songs, available exclusively at Target.

“Everybody asks me that now. I think they thought that since I got married and had a child that I need to be like the ‘Barefoot Diaper Night’ guy or something. But nah, it’s just…it’s made me a better person, and personally, I’ve become more patient, and I’ve become more understanding of a lot of things. But with a child you can’t really control it. It just happens the way it happens, and so…but none of that’s really kind of trickled into my music yet, but I’m sure at some point it will. I mean…but this time around, I was already in the process of really kind of diggin’ in on what I wanted to do, and I’ve been working for so long on my career and the brand of what we do and the kind of music that we make that I kind of stuck with what was working.”

audio  Jake Owen says that sequencing an album is an important part of creating a cool musical experience. (:43)
“I think about it a lot you know, you know, when I’m makin’ the album. I think about what songs should go where and how it should feel because you only get one chance when someone puts your album in and listens to it. If they’re not struck by the first song, they’re gonna hit ‘next,’ and then ‘next,’ and then ‘next,’ but if you can draw ‘em in from the beginning and get ‘em, ‘Aw, man, what’s the next song like?’ Let it ride out and then, ‘Aw, this is cool!’ You kinda…I loved that when I used to buy records or albums right when they’d come out or even now when I buy ‘em. I can’t wait to hear a new artist, like, what they’ve worked on that I haven’t heard yet. So, I listen to the first song first. And I wanna hear…I don’t, like, buy the album and just skip to, like, six, you know, I start with the first one. So it’s important how you kind of let it ride.”

“‘Days of Gold’ is not only the leading track on the album, the title track of the album, it’s a song about the golden days, man, the times we remember, the times that we all will want to look back upon and remember. And I think it’s anything from hangin’ with your friends to hangin’ with your family, and you know, Christmas is rollin’ around the corner. I remember the golden times hangin’ with my family, and this song just has like a…everyone’s got their own…they pull something from it. But I thought it was a good song to lead off the album with…maybe somethin’ a little different than normal.”
