FLASHBACK FRIDAY: Kenny Chesney’s “There Goes My Life” Arrives At Radio In 2003

Flashback to the third week of October 2003, when Kenny Chesney released “There Goes My Life” to radio.

Coming off his No Shirt, No Shoes, No Problems album Kenny was getting ready to release his next project, When The Sun Goes Down. The first song that fans got to hear as it was sent to country radio on October 20th 2003 was “There Goes My Life.” It made an immediate connection with fans, as Kenny heard stories that reflected the song’s story line, “So many guys have written in about how they thought their life was over because they got their high school girlfriend pregnant, and there was a moment there when they thought that everything they ever dreamed of was over and it wasn’t long after that they realized that they wouldn’t take anything for the decision that they made to keep that baby.” That connection with fans helped “There Goes My Life” run up to the top of the song charts where, just 2 months after the song came out, it claimed the number-one spot and stayed there for 7 straight weeks. Kenny knew how special that song was, and continues to be to his fans and all that hear it, “Songs like this don’t come around often and I’m really honored that I get to get up on stage every night and sing this particular song.” Kenny Chesney fans can find the studio version of “There Goes My Life” on his When The Sun Goes Down album, but they can also get a version of the song recorded live in concert when Kenny’s Live From No Shoes Nation arrives in stores and online October 27th! “‘There Goes My Life’ was a very unique song for me, so many people have written letters, emails, given me presents at shows, like literally written books to me about what this song has meant to them. It’s a song about transition, and transition is tough no matter what you’re transitioning from or to. This song is about a girl growing up that is transitioning from her life into another phase of her life and at the same time so is her father, her father so his little girl grow up and he’s having to transition to letting that part of his life go also. But I don’t think you have to be in that situation to feel the power of this song, and so many guys have written in about how they thought their life was over because they got their high school girlfriend pregnant, and there was a moment there when they thought that everything they ever dreamed of was over and it wasn’t long after that they realized that they wouldn’t take anything for the decision that they made to keep that baby and songs like this don’t come around often and I’m really honored that I get to get up on stage every night and sing this particular song.”
