Dolly Parton‘s latest album, I Believe In You is now available in stores! The 14 track collection is actually a first for Dolly in her legendary career, I Believe In You is her first album all written and performed by Dolly with the spirit and heart of children in mind, “I know isn’t that amazing that I’ve never had a kids album? It’s about time… I really just wanted to put together the songs that we write for the imagination library and then all of a sudden we thought, well I’ll add a few more extra songs, few things to it and just go ahead and put it out. So I thought this is the perfect time for it.” The album is not only for kids to listen to, but it benefits them as well–as proceeds from the album will benefit the Imagination Library. “All the money goes to put more books in the hands of more children, so every bit of the money made from this will go to the Imagination Library for the books and the support around the country and the new programs and different things that we might hope to do through the foundation at some point. So yea that’s good and I’m happy about that.” Founded in 1995, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a book gifting organization that has, to date, mailed more than 100 million books to children in Australia, Belize, Canada, United Kingdom and the United States. Each month, the program currently mails more than one million specially selected, high-quality, age-appropriate books to registered children from birth until they start Kindergarten in participating communities. Dolly envisioned creating a lifelong love of reading in children, preparing them for school and inspiring them to dream. Recent studies suggest participation in the Imagination Library is positively and significantly associated with higher measures of early language and math development. Along with the music, people will notice Dolly on the cover with a Butterfly theme, which she says she has always had a connection with, “I’ve always kind of been known about butterflies, like my logo at Dollywood, the W in the wood is a butterfly, and I wrote a song in my very early days called ‘Love Is Like A Butterfly’ and it was one of my first number one records so I’ve always been connected to butterflies cause they’re colorful and gentle and just fly around just trying to make the world a more beautiful place. That was a picture that I had taken years ago cause I wanted me as a butterfly, and when we got ready to put the kids album together I said, ‘remember that picture where I had on butterfly wings and that blue turquoise dress’ and I said ‘I think that’d be perfect for the cover,’ so we dragged that out and everybody agreed and we thought well how appropriate cause it’s kind of fairy like and the kids kind of look at me like a fairy god mother so I think it fits.” Of course Dolly jokes, that while this is a collection of music that can help kids with the proceeds, it’s also good to have a new generation of Dolly fans, “”I know it is exciting and I’m hoping to kind of train them so if I’m still around when they’re grown, I’ll have some fans, I’ll still have some of them dolly fans that I’m still surprised at how some of these younger people that are new and hot in the business that they still sing my songs and all that so that’s very touching to me, I don’t know why that happened but it did and I’m glad.” I Believe In You from Dolly Parton is available now in stores and online.
