Chris Young has had a string of big hits with songs like “The Man I Want to Be” and “Tomorrow,” and while a lot of fans have gotten to know him for his ballads, Chris says that his concerts are loaded with tempo — and that’s one big reason why he wanted to kick up the energy and kick off his upcoming album, A.M., with his new single, “Aw Naw.” (AUDIO INFO BELOW)

  • Set for release on September 17th, Chris’ A.M. album is available for pre-order right now, here, on Amazon.
  • In a press release today about the cover and track listing, Chris said, “I couldn’t be more excited to share this with my fans. We just finished the cover last week and got the songs sequenced so this is truly ‘hot off the press.’” Chris co-wrote six of the 11 new songs, including “Aw Naw” and the title track. “There’s a lot of fun on this album and that’s why I wanted to call the album A.M.,” said Chris. “Like the song says, ‘the whole world’s asleep but we’re wide awake in the A.M.”

audio  Chris Young talks about launching his new album with an approach that’s true to his concerts. (:44)
“I think this is somethin’ that needed to happen. I’ve talked a lot about this record being much more a pocket of what my live show is like. And I thought we really had to lead with a tempo off this album. It was important to me to do that. You know, not for any reason of ‘oh, tempos are easier to get played on the radio’ — you always hear a whole bunch of different things about why people pick tempos, and I picked one really because we haven’t done one yet. We’ve done some stuff that’s up and exciting and not a ballad, but we haven’t really done like a big, rockin’ tempo yet — and we do a lot of that in my show, me and my band. And I thought it was really important for this album to lead with a song like this, and we narrowed it down to two or three of the songs that are on the record, and ‘Aw Naw’ ended up bein’ what everybody kind of gravitated towards.”
