CHRIS YOUNG: Pre-Show Ironing

audio

Singers have lots of pre-show rituals before their concerts, but Chris Young‘s ritual is from a lesson he learned very early on in life. Chris shares the story of how he once mixed a red piece of clothing in a load of whites–and that forever changed his relationship with laundry. So, if you see Chris on stage in a very nicely ironed outfit–you can thank his mom.

“I accidentally put something red into the load of whites and turn everything pink one time. People always, you know when I say in interviews I always like ‘before the show with your pre-show ritual,’ and I’m like ‘it sounds kind of weird but about an hour and a half out from the show I’ll just like get whatever I’m wearing out and put up the ironing board and iron my clothes’ and they’re like ‘what?’ Everybody always talks about ‘I didn’t really learn how to wash my clothes don’t want to college.’ No, no.  The minute that happened she like got me and my sister and pulled us in there was like ‘OK today you learn how to wash your own clothes,’ that was it. You put something red in the whites, it’s game over.”
