There’s an old showbiz saying…it warns never to perform after kids or animals — and Chris Young got reminded of this the hard way at a show when a little boy said he knew how to sing Chris’ big hit, “Gettin’ You Home.” So when the young Young fan got a chance to show his stuff with an invitation on stage, Chris said it was actually really fun because the kid just knocked it out of the park. - You know, that talented young fan could do a little lyric tweaking on Chris’ new hit, “The Man I Want to Be” — let’s see: “I want to be a good kid, a do like I should kid, I want to be the kind of kid the teacher likes to see,” or we can just stick with Chris’ terrific version — it’s the title track to the same album that includes “Gettin’ You Home.”

“The funniest thing ever is we had this little kid — I mean, he couldn’t have been 10 years old; he had to be younger than that, and he was like, ‘Oh, yeah, I know “Gettin’ You Home.”‘ And I was like, ‘Really?’ We pulled him up on stage in the middle of the show, and he sang on pitch the whole chorus, and it was like, ‘You totally just stole my song from me, man!’ I can’t…you can’t follow a kid! It’s like (laughs), kids and animals — you can’t follow them. It was just really cool, and his mom was all excited about it. And he was just a cute kid, man. He had, like, zero stage fright, so I’m just glad that I am bringing that to the youth of America.” (laughs)
