CHRIS YOUNG: Fear Of Flying

audio

Chris Young is very hands on when it comes to his stage setup for his concerts, he always wants to give fans the biggest and best show possible when he’s singing his songs, like his current hit single “Sober Saturday Night.” But, there is one thing that Chris knows he won’t do…there will be no jumping off building like Lady Gaga recently did at the Super Bowl. Chris says “I think probably the most terrifying thing, at least for me, that I’ve seen another performer do recently is that Lady Gaga jump off the top of the stadium at the Super Bowl. Heights are not my thing.” Proving that, Chris shares a miscalculated stage set from a couple of years ago, “We actually built a set one time…you could walk up stairs on the side and get up on top and I was like ‘oh man this is cool’ cause it’s on top of the video wall and it’ll look really nice. The first time we got up there, I realized it’s six and a half foot high and then I’m six-four, so you are way up in the air and no one wanted to go up on that part of the set.” So, Chris keep his performances closer to a reasonable stage level. Artists like Gaga, P!nk and other “flying” singers don’t have to worry about Chris Young challenging them to an air battle, Chris can firmly state “I don’t think I’m ever gonna like fly above the audience by wire, I don’t know if that’s my thing. I’ll have to come up with something else that’s cool instead.”

“I think probably the most terrifying thing, at least for me, that I’ve seen another performer do recently is that Lady Gaga jump off the top of the stadium at the Super Bowl. Heights are not my thing. We actually built a set one time, this was a couple years back that I was still using this set design, but you could walk up stairs on the side and get up on top and I was like ‘oh man this is cool’ cause it’s on top of the video wall and it’ll look really nice. The first time we got up there, I realized it’s six and a half foot high and then I’m six-four, so you are way up in the air and no one wanted to go up on that part of the set. I think maybe one person a night went up there and the entire time they’re just like don’t fall, don’t fall, don’t fall. So I can’t imagine that kind of leap and that was just an incredible performance by her but I would probably skip that particular part. (laugh)”
