CHRIS YOUNG: #1 and Going to the GRAMMYs!

It’s been an amazing week for Chris Young…and it’s not over yet! Chris made music history this week when his smash “Voices” hit number-one, becoming not only his third chart-topper in a row, but also the first time in 25 years — and only the second time in the history of the modern Billboard country chart — that a re-released single charted a second time and went to number-one! But as if all that weren’t enough, Chris is on his way to L.A. for this Sunday’s GRAMMY® Awards. Chris is a first-time nominee, up for Best Male Country Vocal Performance for his first chart-topper, “Gettin’ You Home.” We caught up with Chris in this midst of the week’s excitement, and he talked with us about his feelings as he prepares to hit the GRAMMY red carpet with the number-one country song in the land. CHRIS YOUNG: #1 and Going to the GRAMMYs!  Chris Young talks about hitting number-one with “Voices.” (:26)
“Because of the unique situation with this song having been out before and then now is a re-release, it’s one of the coolest things we’ve gotten to celebrate so far, ’cause it’s just so rare. I mean, it’s the first time in 25 years this has happened — and that was when I was born, ’cause I’m 25 (laughs) — so it’s kind of funny, but just an amazing feeling, and everybody’s fired up. So much support on this from radio to the fans to my label, and I’m blown away.”

CHRIS YOUNG: #1 and Going to the GRAMMYs!  Chris Young explains his feelings as he’s scored three number-one singles in a row. (:58)
“You look at my first number-one, it was special ’cause it’s the first time it ever happens. It’s somethin’ that, you know, obviously I’d had singles out before that didn’t…weren’t hits, and then now we have one that’s a number-one. It’s the first real hit I’ve ever had, so, freakin’ out about that. And then we have the second song go number-one is the title track to the album, so there’s somethin’ special about that. And it’s a song that I didn’t write it; we found it, so I felt like that’s cool, you know, we kind of found a song and fell in love with it and made it mine. And you know, the songwriters are there, and everybody’s excited, and it’s the second one in a row. And, man, for this one, it’s just different because, you know, it’s a re-release. It’s making history on top of being the third number-one. And then beyond all that, it’s a song that I was a co-writer on, and you know, that always makes it special. I mean, it’s just different knowin’ that I co-wrote two of the singles that we put out on this record, and they were number-one songs. I mean, this is what I could have only dreamed of when we were makin’ this record.”

CHRIS YOUNG: #1 and Going to the GRAMMYs!  Chris Young says that things are going so well, it’s just an amazing time for him. (:27)
“I mean, really, if you look at the beginning of this year, I…it’s kind of freakin’ me out. You know, we had the third number-one, we’re goin’ into this new album, new song everybody’s excited about, nominated for my first — the first time for a GRAMMY — and I get to go. And somebody pointed out to me, ‘You realize that you’re gonna walk the red carpet at the GRAMMYs, and you’ll have the number-one song in the country.’ All of that stuff kind of comes together, and it’s…you know, I’m really…I don’t even know what to do right now. (laughs) I’m just like, ‘Don’t mess it up!'”

CHRIS YOUNG: #1 and Going to the GRAMMYs!  Chris Young feels very fortunate right now, and he’s working hard to live up to the faith and support of everyone who believes in him. (:18)
“It’s just like things keep gettin’ better and better. And obviously, you know, there’s a lot of work involved. There’s a lot of people that don’t get as much credit as they should that are behind the scenes doin’ stuff, whether it’s at the label or fans or country radio, and I’m just incredibly lucky right now, and just gonna try to put out as much good music as I can.” (laughs)
