CARRIE UNDERWOOD: Thanks for the Loaner!

Carrie Underwood is nearing the top of the charts with her smash, “I Told You So,” and if it hits number-one, “I Told You So” will join an elite group of incredible country hits to actually make it to number-one twice. Carrie hand-picked the Randy Travis classic to include on her Carnival Ride album, and while she certainly deserves credit for choosing the song and making a great record, she takes a much more humble approach to its current success. She says, “I think it really is a testament to the song, to ‘I Told You So,’ and to Randy Travis ’cause he did such an amazing job writing this amazing song. I think no matter who sang it again, it would probably end up getting really high on the charts.” (AUDIO INFO BELOW)

  • Songs that make it to number-one twice are far and few between, but they’re out there! A few prime examples: in 2000, Alan Jackson took “It Must Be Love” to the top of the charts after Don Williams first did it in 1979…country queens Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline both scored with “She’s Got You”…and Dolly Parton hit number-one in 1974 with “I Will Always Love You,” and then did it again twelve years later with the same song!
  • “I Told You So” is the latest blockbuster single from Carrie’s Carnival Ride album, which also features the chart-toppers “Last Name,” “Just a Dream,” “All-American Girl,” and “So Small.”
  • In addition to Carrie’s solo recording of “I Told You So” on Carnival Ride, a duet version with Randy Travis is currently available as a digital single at your favorite online music store.

CARRIE UNDERWOOD: Thanks for the Loaner!  Carrie Underwood credits the talents of Randy Travis for the current success of “I Told You So.” (:22)
“I don’t think any of it’s anything that I have done, that the song has done so well. I think it really is a testament to the song, to ‘I Told You So,’ and to Randy Travis ’cause he did such an amazing job writing this amazing song. I think no matter who sang it again, it would probably end up getting really high on the charts just because it’s a great song. So I’m very glad that he let me borrow his song for a little while.”
