CARRIE UNDERWOOD: Playing the Global Citizen Festival

audio

This Saturday, September 27th, Carrie Underwood will be among the artists headlining the third annual Global Citizen Festival, a free, ticketed concert being staged on the Great Lawn in New York City’s Central Park. The event is part of the Global Citizen movement and its mission to achieve a world without extreme poverty by the year 2030. While some VIP tickets still remain, the event’s 48,000 free tickets have been distributed to Global Citizens who “earned” their chance for admission by taking part in online actions at globalcitizenfestival.com. And with the good work being done by the organization, this is one event where Carrie says she’s especially thrilled to take the stage. (AUDIO INFO BELOW)

  • In addition to Carrie, this year’s concert headliners include JAY Z, No Doubt, fun., The Roots, and Tiësto.
  • MSNBC will air five hours of the concert, live, on cable and MSNBC.com. NBC News is also producing a one-hour primetime special from the event, slated to air on NBC at 9pm, ET, on Saturday.
  • In a press release about the event, Carrie said this summer, “I believe we all have the ability to make our world a better place. Positive change is possible when we work together, and this Festival is a hopeful opportunity for all of us to help see an end to extreme poverty.”
  • Tweetworthy… Over the weekend, in a tweet from @carrieunderwood, Carrie shared: “I was born with music inside me. Music was one of my parts…It was a necessity for me – like food or water.” Ray Charles

“I feel very honored to get to be a part of the Global Citizen Festival this year. I mean, to get to play Central Park with an incredible line-up of really diverse artists, I think that’s…again, I’m honored to be on that stage. I’m a fan, as well, and I’m excited to see the other performers, you know: No Doubt, JAY Z. I’m excited to be able to see them perform, as well, so I think it’s gonna be a lot of fun, and I think it’s such a great way to raise awareness and reward people for giving their time and their energy and their efforts to help others. I mean, that’s what we’re all here for, so, I think it’s really great that I can lend my voice and get to do what I do for a good cause.”
