audio  Carrie Underwood talks about her single “Dirty Laundry.” (:40)
“’Dirty Laundry’ kind of starts out, this story about the whole…it’s a take on a cheater in a familiar way, with the lipstick on the collar and the red wine and there’s all these tell-tale signs that he was with another woman and it shows on his dirty laundry.  But it’s also that she airs it out for the whole world to see, metaphorically, and literally, airs his dirty laundry out to the world – strings it up on the porch.  In case you feel like comin’ back, this is gonna be a reminder to you not to do that.”

audio  Carrie Underwood talks about first hearing her song “Dirty Laundry.” (:22)
“I was immediately drawn to ‘Dirty Laundry’ the first time I heard it, because it was so different, it had such a laid-back kind of vibe to it. Yes it’s a…it’s a cheatin’ song this is country music after all, but it was kind of done in a different way, and I just really, I love the groove of the music. I love that kind of Ajax line, because it was kind of weird and cool and I just, I loved it from the first listen.”

audio  Carrie Underwood talks about the evolution of her current single “Dirty Laundry.” (:48)
“‘Dirty laundry’ did evolve a bit in the recording process from the demo. Nowadays, we’re so lucky because we get demos, it’s so easy to make great music on your computer at home, and some of these writers and stuff are so so so good at making demos. There’s a wonderful template to work of, but I feel like a lot of the background vocals especially changed, because Hillary and I just kinda got in there we were just playing around, Hillary Lindsey, one of the writers…sorry. (laugh) We just kind of got in the studio, and we’re playing around with background vocals and it ended up sounding really cool, and haunting. I haven’t listened to the demo version in a long time so I bet if I went back and listened to it now, I’d be like ‘oh, my gosh, so much is different.’ But we had a lot of great stuff to work off initially.”

audio  Carrie Underwood talks about the female character in her song “Dirty Laundry.” (:26)
“She’s gonna tell everybody everything, every lowdown dirty thing that you did! So it is…it’s a woman fed up but she does something about it too. She kicks him out, and she also kinda ruins his reputation (laugh). It’s a good strong empowering song…again on a familiar storyline but a definite new take on it, and a new twist on it, it’s really fresh and cool.”
