CAM: Great Advice

audio

Having a passion for music is one thing–but deciding to make that your living, is completely something else. Sometimes when trying to make that decision, a singer will seek advice…and that’s just what Cam did. Before she became a country singer with an album, a number-one song, and opening for Dierks Bentley, Cam was working in the field of psychology. The point that pushed her, was when she was coming up to a pretty big crossroad in her life. Cam had to decide whether to continue in school, or follow her dream. So, Cam sought the advice of one her professors–who’s advice was so simple it was perfect. Cam says the professor’s advice was to “Picture yourself eighty years old and looking back on your life, and what would you regret having missed out on. Would you regret having missed out on music or on psychology?” Cam knew the answer right away, and we’re pretty sure you know which path she took too.

audio  Cam shares the story of the moment she decided to turn her attention to making music for a living. (:45)
“When I was in another job, I was in psychology research and I was applying to graduate schools, and I felt like…I was 25, and I felt like ‘I’m so old.’ (laugh) I don’t know why you feel like you’re old at 25, but I felt like I was maybe losing my chance to do music, cause I loved music, and I thought ‘maybe I should try,’ but I was afraid to, So, I asked my professor, and I said ‘what do you think I should do? Should I stick with psychology, or do you think I should go after music?’ And she said ‘Picture yourself eighty years old and looking back on your life, and what would you regret having missed out on. Would you regret having missed out on music or on psychology?’ And I was like definitely music, so I went after it.”
