CAM: Emotional Punch

audio

One song that’s packing an emotional punch for a lot of people recently is Cam’s hit single, “Burning House.” It’s also a song that carries a lot of emotional weight with its singer, because it’s inspired by a real-life relationship that Cam felt she had ended badly. (AUDIO INFO BELOW)

  • While the relationship that inspired “Burning House” wasn’t meant to be, Cam did go on to find the love of her life and got engaged last month!
  • “Burning House” recently became Cam’s very first RIAA-certified Gold record! Look for it on her Welcome to Cam Country digital EP, available on Apple Music.
  • Hot Song, Cool News: It was just announced this week that Cam will be taking her “Burning House” on the road as a special guest on the winter leg of Brad Paisley’s Crushin’ It World Tour, kicking off on January 21st!
  • Cam’s excited to be opening a trio of shows this week for headliner Darius Rucker, and she says that part of the fun is that she’s also a fan. (AUDIO INFO BELOW)
  • About “Burning House,” Cam tells Rolling Stone Country, “It’s a really vulnerable song because it comes from a real place. I didn’t handle the end of a relationship very well. I wanted to apologize for that. It was like guilt around it. It’s a tough song, because there is no Disney movie for when you love someone a lot and they’re almost perfect, but they’re not. They’re not a villain, but they’re not Prince Charming. So what do you do with all that love? It comes out in crazy dreams of burning houses.”
  • If you haven’t seen it yet, take a look below at Cam’s amazing new music video that debuted last week via Entertainment Tonight and ETOnline!

audio  Cam says that “Burning House” is an emotional song for her to sing. (:41)
“This song is definitely one of the songs in the set that will adjust my mood, as I’m singing it. It makes me very sad to sing this song, ’cause vocals are such an emotional thing. It’s very hard to get through singing it as you’re recording it, and then when I was finished, I actually sent it to the guy who it’s about, and he (laughs) joked, he said, ‘Oh, so I die in the song?’ (laughs) He was, like, less than pleased that he died in the song. But also, it’s just such a weird thing to show someone a song about them and about us and what happened. So that part, that also adds to the heaviness of it.”

audio  Cam hopes that there’s a lesson to be shared in “Burning House.” (:30)
“He’s this person that…I love him very much, and we aren’t gonna be best friends ever, because of how all of this stuff went down, and it’s just something that you gotta live and learn from and move forward, but it’s sort of like a little scar you get to keep. And it’s semi-embarrassing to show everybody (laughs), but I think it’s important so other people can learn from it and hopefully not make the mistake that I did, you know, and try and take care of each other little bit better.”

audio  Cam is a fan and excited to be opening some shows this week for Darius Rucker. (:13)
“He just gets the basic vibe of country music, which is just day-to-day life. And he just sings about it so well. Yeah, I’m really excited to hear him perform and just be a little fan in the front after I’m finished with my set.”
