Hey it’s us, Old Dominion. ODIES BUT GOODIES is out now. We wanted to take not just the hits, but also the songs the people in our world loved the most and put them in one place. We added “Coming Home” our new single, decided to throw in our cover of Johnny Lee’s “Looking For Love”, and make it a master document of all of the songs people ask us for over and over.

We wound up performing “Looking for Love” on, CMA Award performance. To honor Johnny Lee and to honor, Urban Cowboy. When we did it, it felt really natural. Well, performing it in front of Johnny Lee was was, it was pretty intimidating, but we got to meet him and his family, and, he seemed to really like what we did with it. you know, anytime you get to perform in front of a legend, it’s a little nerve wracking, but also so reassuring when they come up to you and disarm all of that and treat you as a peer, as an equal. It’s really an amazing thing about our job. Its was also a performance that happened during Covid, so it felt lost and we always talked about how great it was and that we wanted it to have a little bit more exposure. So when this came around and we had the opportunity to give it another shot. So it’s pretty cool that it’s on there.

What drew the band to making Looking For Love As a Cover?
I mean, we love songs that are hooky and also meaningful, and relatable. So it’s something that we always try to do is let’s try to write something that’s relatable, by turning inward, and also kind of hide it in this really, like pop danceable sensibility. And “Looking for Love” is is like that. It’s like one of those classic songs that sounds fun and, happy, But when you break it down, there’s this longing and this, like, real heartfelt message to it, which is perfect for.

How was picking songs for the album?
It was not easy because we’ve really tried as hard as we can to make every album an album full of unskippable songs that are our favorite songs. So, you know, and everybody has a different favorite song. So it was it was kind of tough. But I mean, ultimately, you know, we just throw out what are our favorite songs, what are the ones we come back to and want to listen to most, and then also what what are the songs that the fans hold up signs for the most? I mean, you know, when we play enough shows, there’s certain songs you see over and over again requested. So, you know, we just try to put our heads together and, and pay attention to that. At some point you go, all right, we can’t put any more songs. That is too many. So yeah. And 31 was that number. Yeah.
