Thinking through the recording process for “Pelago,” I think you only get one shot to make a debut full-length album. And so I think the biggest deal for me was the song choices. And some of the songs are really old and some of them are brand new to me, but they’re all brand new to you. So I just wanted to really put the songwriting first, and then after that, I didn’t have like a big tracking day or studio day, my producer Aaron and I have known each other since we were kids in Kalamazoo, Michigan. And so I let him sort of be in charge of most of the music. And what I really focused on was the singing so I’d show up for vocal days and we do one or two songs at a time and then it was just back into mix world and that’s the product that you have now. So it was a super relaxed way to make an album and I think that’s something that you can hear in these recordings. And so yeah, I’m super proud of it. Thank you so much for checking it out. Arista Nashville singer-songwriter Ryan Hurd joined industry friends and fans to celebrate the release of his debut album Pelago as well as the R.I.A.A. Platinum certification of his Top 5 and climbing hit “Chasing After You” with Maren Morris.
In addition to “Chasing After You,” his first ever duet with wife Morris, his album includes the tracks “June, July, August,” “ Coast,” and “Tab with My Name on It.”
Hurd is nominated for two trophies at next month’s CMA Awards: Musical Event of the Year and Music Video of the Year for “Chasing After You.” Hurd and Morris performed the track on “Late Night with Seth Meyers.”
Pelago, inspired by Hurd’s upbringing on the shores of Lake Michigan, was produced with childhood friend and longtime creative partner Aaron Eshuis, with further contributions from Jesse Frasure (Thomas Rhett, Kane Brown, Little Big Town) and Teddy Reimer.
Hurd is set to tour the U.S. next year. He kicks off the Tour de Pelago headline run in January with dates including Chicago’s The Vic, New York’s Irving Plaza, Nashville’s Marathon Music Works and more.
