ELELLE KING: WEIGHS-IN ON WHY “DRUNK (AND I DON’T WANT TO GO HOME)” RESONATES WITH SO MANY (AUDIO)
Elle King: Well, I think what’s really cool and what’s being shown right now, even with my own personal music is that there is no specific sound to a genre. And like I say a good song is a good song. And so when “Drunk” started, this was in my like, rock alt. could be pop days. And, and so the fact that it is kind of being accepted by country fans is proof right there that it’s like, there is no formula to make something in a genre work. And I guess maybe there is something about just being a personality, and having someone like Miranda, sing on it with me is like even more proof that like, it’s just the bare bones of a song. And it’s us singing about something that everyone can relate to, in the pop world, in the rock world, in the country world. So that’s I’ve never felt any pressure from the country world. I’ve I felt only only acceptance and excitement. And we just make music that people want to hear and that people want to listen to. And I think that “Drunk” is a great, great gift of that because people just want to party and they want to let their hair down and they want to say I’ve been in my house for too long. Take my keys, I’m drunk and I don’t want to go home and it’s something that everyone can relate to.
