Q: This year in particular must be so special to win an award. The way music is connected to the people. You were nominated with a lot of amazing women in country music. How does that all feel for you?
Miranda: Hi, thank you.
ML: It’s really cool. I mean, these are all really strong records and all of my friends. I mean, I just met Ingrid but she’s… I respect what she does. Everybody else I’ve known for a long time and toured with and been friends with and hung out with outside of work so to me it felt like whoever won, we were winning for each other. For Nashville. You know what I mean? We’ve been face timing with everybody at home so you know this isn’t just mine, this is ours especially as a group of women.

Q: This is the second time that you have won for best country album. Is there something extra special about winning for a whole body of work like that?
ML: Definitely. I mean you put your heart and soul into the…. I still make albums. I think everybody in the category does. You know, we still romanticize about having a full project to represent where we are in life and where we are creatively so this record really um… I needed it in my life at the time and that we made it and I feel like it’s mean it’s like it obviously feels amazing to celebrate that but I love all of the people in the category with me and like I said, we’re family so I mean I feel like I’m bringing it home for all of us.

ML: Thank you

Q: Hey how’s it going? I’m just curious what your thoughts on this win are in context of not being able to tour the record and not being able to go out and support it and see response from the audience in the presence as you go around the country, you know? ML: Well, I got to tour a little bit. I was one of the lucky ones. I toured from January to March and then March 2nd was my last gig but we did a little bit of “Wildcard” tour and then you know I actually haven’t got to celebrate with the fans. I had…you know “Bluebird” was a big song for me and I haven’t got to sing it with them and play it with the band much and so I’m excited to do that and you know this just feels really good in a year where you’re like ‘What’s happening? Does it mean anything anymore?” but knowing that the music helped get people through, including myself, I know that the celebration will be even bigger when we get back together.

Wildcard is Lambert’s seventh consecutive No. 1 studio album, making her one of only two artists to achieve this feat. Produced by Jay Joyce, Wildcard was declared one of 2019’s best by GQ, Variety, Billboard, Rolling Stone, Slate, Stereogum, Paste, and many more. Entertainment Weekly praised, “Listening to Wildcard…you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll wake up from a blackout-drunk evening next to your two best girlfriends and a freshly dug grave that none of you will speak of again. This is Lambert’s second win for Best Country Album, receiving the Award for her No. 1 album Platinum in 2014. She has also previously won Best Female Country Vocal Performance for “The House That Built Me.”
