Audio Commentary Excerpts from Lambert Q & A on music video for “Settling Down”

Lambert on Concept for Music Video:
I came up with this concept because of the lyrics of the song, I wanted to shoot something at my home, my farm, preferably with my husband. I just feel like it was very intimate and kind of set up the lyrics. So we talked to Trey Fanjoy, our favorite director and friend, and she made it this beautiful fairytale, but also very down-home and down to Earth. It was shot at my happy place with my happy person, so it was a really good day.

Lambert on Inspiration for the Song:
I’d say life inspired me to write this song, I got married, but I also still love the road, I have a gypsy soul, and I wanted to write a song that kind of spoke to the sentiment of “can you have both?” and is that okay? I think the video just compliments the lyrics.

Lambert on Favorite Part of Making Music Video:
My favorite part of filming was watching my husband sort of come to life on camera in his video debut, and he’s so sweet and humble about it, but he really killed it so that was fun to watch.

Lambert on Featuring Husband, Brendan McLoughlin, in Video:
I think we understand why I had him in the video, because he’s very pretty. I needed a video babe and he was there, so it just worked out.

Lambert on Brendan Being Nervous
I think he was nervous, he was a little nervous, but he and I would come find each other in breaks and I would be like, “you okay?” and he was, he did a really good job.

Lambert on Most Difficult Scene to Film During the Shoot:
I would say the riding scene was difficult, we had drones to deal with and weather, we were about to get rained out and the drone was going in the sky and I was on the horse for a really long time before we even shot anything, so the tensions got pretty high there for a minute, but the shot was worth it.

Lambert on the Horse Featured in Video:
Yes, it was, it was a Gibson my Gypsy Vanner. He’s my power house, he’s my fast, a little bit scary sometimes horse since I’m so green. He and I practiced together, we had an understanding, a real bonding moment over me riding him in the video, so it’s always going to be magical in my mind.

Superstar Miranda Lambert has debuted the new music video for her latest radio single “Settling Down.” Watch here.

“The ‘Settling Down’ video is very personal to me because it was filmed at my farm and my husband got to be in the video with me,” said Lambert. “My mom always called me a wild child and a homing pigeon. I always have an itch to find a new adventure, but I’m also always ready to walk through my front door. I feel like a lot of people feel that way, and ‘Settling Down’ tells the story of being caught between those two feelings.”

Directed by Trey Fanjoy, the sprawling visual follows Lambert and her husband, Brendan McLoughlin, at home in Tennessee. Lambert’s horse, Gibson, as well as one of her many rescue dogs, Delta Dawn, also have cameos.

Already Top 40 at country radio, “Settling Down” is the most recent single from Lambert’s universally acclaimed album Wildcard and follows her No. 1 hit “Bluebird.” “Bluebird” is currently nominated for Single, Song, and Music Video of the Year at “The 54th Annual CMA Awards” where Lambert is also up for Entertainer, Female Vocalist, Musical Event (“Fooled Around and Fell in Love” with Maren Morris, Elle King, Ashley McBryde, Tenille Townes and Caylee Hammack), and Album of the Year (Wildcard).
