New Track and Episode now available from the Make It Up As We Go Podcast!

Executive producer and acclaimed songwriter Nicolle Galyon talks about what she is most excited for listeners to take away from the series and soundtrack.

Video commentary from Nicolle Gaylon:
I think I’m most excited about for listeners to experience that lightbulb moment that happens in the writing room. When someone is just having a conversation and two characters are having a conversation about something that isn’t even a song yet and someone says something and in the moment everyone has their little antenna goes up and they’re like ‘wait, I think that is what we should write about today’. Because there really is nothing like that feeling cause when you walk into a writing room, you’re really just grasping at air. Like we are going to make something out of nothing which the title is “Make It Up As We Go” because you really are making something out of nothing. So to watch and experience in these podcasts when a character goes into a room and has a conversation or a fight or a heated moment with someone and it turns into a song. That is kind of the intangible thing that makes Nashville and songwriting so special to me.

Video Version: Tyler Rich talks about his experience on the podcast and being a part of the soundtrack

Cast member, Dennis Quaid talks about his experience on the podcast

Hey everybody, Dennis Quaid here, and I’m really excited to get the word out about Audio Up’s new scripted series podcast, “Make It Up As We Go,” starring Scarlett Burke. We had great success at Audio Up with “Bear and a Banjo” last year. It was a true fiction that we made about American music and the history of American music through these two nefarious characters that we did with Bob Dylan and T Bone Burnett and Poo Bear. And now we have a new one, “Make It Up As We Go,” which is the story of a young woman who moves from Amarillo, Texas where she grew up and moves to Nashville to become a songwriter and singer. And it’s kind of a true fiction in itself because Scarlett Burke, who stars in it, it’s really kind of her story in a way. She’s from Amarillo, by the way, and she’s an exceptional songwriter and singer that I’ve gotten to know over the past couple of years, and this is really her moment to shine, and I think a lot of people out there are going to really relate with her story. Like I said, she moves to Nashville and all the glories and pitfalls that come with that, and we’re really proud of it. I’ve been with it since the beginning of its inception, and seen the story sort of come about organically. And I actually play her father if you can believe it in the show, I really like the character. Her father is a guy who works fixing cars basically and tending to the ranch, and he has great hopes for his daughter, and also wants to keep an eye on her and be there to listen and also to kind of live the dream she’s trying to achieve with her. And it’s a story that I think is going to touch your heart, and it’s also really interesting, it really is. And there’s a lot of really great people that actually became attracted enough to do it with us. Billy Bob Thornton is in it, Miranda Lambert, and a lot of country stars, and it’s going to be something special, and I’m glad to be a part of it. Being an actor and being in the podcast realm is really interesting, I’m just as excited about it as I was when I started my acting career really. It’s something new and it’s something old at the same time, I kind of relate it to the old radio dramas that the family used to gather around the radio before they had television. It’s a great way to tell stories, and it’s an easy way to tell stories, really without a large production. And I love listening to podcasts myself, and scripted podcasts are incredible because your imagination takes over, like reading a book. Also, what’s really great about podcast series like this in a scripted form is, you know, they come in episodes in a sense, and the time that it takes you to drive to work, when we can go back to work, or wherever you’re going on a trip or wherever, it’s great to just get lost in a story. And Scarlett really delivers. She’s an excellent songwriter, she’s an incredible singer, and she’s paid her dues and she’s got stuff, and she’s quite an actress as well, although you’ll think you’re listening to somebody’s true story, which in a way you are. So please take a look at “Make It Up As We Go,” brought to you from Audio Up. Thank you, I mean really thank you. I’ve been working all day myself, and I’m at the end of the day here playing President Reagan during the day, and I’m doing my night job which is Audio Up and having a ball. So anyway, God bless all of you out there, and keep the faith. Take care.

“Make It Up As We Go” follows the story of aspiring singer/songwriter Charlotte’s journey to make her dreams come true in the music industry. According to the podcast’s description, “‘Make It Up As We Go’ follows the story of an aspiring young songwriter, played by Scarlett Burke, and her pursuits to make a name for herself in the music industry. Encountering a number of characters along the way, including legendary Nashville producer Van Tyler (played by Billy Bob Thornton), and the voice of country radio, Bobby Bones (playing himself). ‘Make It Up As We Go’ unravels Charlotte’s own personal journey navigating the writer rooms of Nashville, which is where the stories are told, songs are born, and in turn – finding her own voice along the way.”

The podcast has officially launched with the first two episodes. In episode one, titled “My Dove,” we learn about Charlotte and her backstory, and how she and her guitar player boyfriend get discovered by a Nashville producer in Amarillo, Texas after hearing their original song, “My Dove.” After being invited to Nashville to explore their songwriting abilities, Charlotte and her boyfriend end up in a writing session with well-known Nashville songwriter Marshall Tracy.

In episode two, “Poison,” the episode gives a glimpse into the future as Charlotte is a guest on Bobby Bones’ radio show, remembering her disastrous first Nashville writing session. Then, the episode picks up where the story left off: the aftermath of that writing session. After Charlotte begins to outshine her boyfriend Davis, she is faced with the decision to write without him or go back home to Texas. In a new writing session with an award-winning Nashville songwriter, Emily Turner, she works on a new song called “Poison.” – By Taylor Fields
