Old Dominion: Matthew Ramsey on the video concept for “Some People Do” (Audio)
Matthew Ramsey of Old Dominion shares more on how the concept for the music video to “Some People Do” came to be and how the experience of making that music video forever changed him.
Matthew Ramsey: The video concept for “Some People Do” was really a late night kind of flash of an idea, laying in my bunk, lookin at the internet. Came across some videos from Jason Schneidman who is a stylist that we use a lot of time for TV appearances and awards shows and things like that. He comes and does our hair and makes us look good. But, we’ve known him for like 4 years and we hit it off immediately. And kind of got to know him over the years and I was looking at his Instagram page and watching him sort of do his thing where he, you know, you see in the video. He um, he’s an amazing person. He’s just out there in the world helping the homeless population and uh, he’s a recovering addict himself and really understands what it means to change… and that is what this song is about. It’s about that moment where you just decide you know, that you’re unhappy with your behavior and you want to change. And that is a really tough thing to do and he did it. And he’s helping others do that. And so, we just felt like maybe, this was a great time to highlight that, with that song, and his actions, and put them both together. I’m so happy we did. I’m so proud of this video and proud of everyone for kind of pushing past our comfort zone. That was like one of the toughest things that day when we went down to Venice Beach. It was tough at the beginning to just you know push yourself past that comfort zone and all your preconceived notions of what these people are going to be like. You know, when you push past that awkward moment and you speak to them you realize they’re just humans just like you and they’re good people. And, you know they might be a little down on their luck. Who hasn’t been? So, they were just so appreciative of any effort to recognize that they were a person and they are. So I will forever be changed by that day.
