Earlier this week Old Dominion‘s lead singer Matthew Ramsey was honored at the 55th annual American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) Country Music Awards with Songwriter-Artist Of The Year. While you know him for singing hits like “Snapback,” “No Such Thing As A Broken Heart,” and the band’s new single “Written In The Sand”–Matthew says that he move to Nashville was originally motivated by his love of songwriting. Matthew shares, “I moved to town with the goal of being a songwriter not being a performer, because I met a songwriter named Darrell Scott and he’s a hit songwriter and amazing performer and I asked him if I should move to Nashville and he said, if you want to be a star don’t do it, but if you want to be in a city that’s full of the best talent and the best writers and the best musicians and be surrounded by them and learn from them then by all means you should go do it and so that was what I put in my mind when I decided to move to Nashville and that’s you know 16 years ago and I still have that mind set and I still try and be inspired and you know I think of myself as a songwriter before anything else so it’s really amazing to be you know recognized in that world that I care for so deeply.” Check out the video for “Written In The Sand”–which is the latest single from their album Happy Endings, plus their tour dates for their Happy Endings world tour at Old Dominion Band dot com, or just click HERE
