Old Dominion‘s sophomore effort, Happy Endings, is arriving in stores and online next Friday, August 25th, and their single “No Such Thing As A Broken Heart” is climbing the songs charts! Sometimes with an artist, the making and releasing their first album is a blur, so it’s really their second album when they get the “releasing an album experience.” Old Dominion lead singer Matthew Ramsey can relate. He recalls the hectic atmosphere was so rampant during the making of their first album, Meat and Candy, that the band even had to sign their record label deal in the baggage claim of an airport! Matthew recalls “The album was already half way made, before we signed. So, it was like touring, making an album, had an EP, we signed a record deal, the song was already on the radio, we finished the album…it was just really a kind of hodgepodge way to make an album.” But now when it comes to their second, Happy Endings, Matthew says the planning and execution of the release has been more synchronized, “This one was much more planned out, like ‘OK, now it’s time to start thinking about the second album. Let’s the songs together, get the marketing plan together.’ It’s definitely a much more calculated thing this time, which I’m excited to see what happens. Cause the first one seemed to work. So, I’m excited to see what happens with a little bit more intention put behind it.” When it comes to busyness though, Old Dominion is still filling up their schedule leading up to the release of Happy Endings next Friday August 25th. They’re on the road all this weekend playing festivals, including one in Canada. Their Bud Light Dive Bar Shows continue on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week as they’ll be playing at Bub City in Chicago, and the Backforty Saloon in Grand Rapids. That’s before hitting another festival on Thursday in Pennsylvania, and then heading up to Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts to play with Kenny Chesney Friday and Saturday night! All that playing for fans is paying off though, as the first single from Happy Endings, “No Such Thing As A Broken,” is knocking on the door to the number-one spot on the songs charts.
