Following the theme of his latest hit, Brad Paisley has had a bunch of “Last Time For Everything” type moments in his career. One of the country legends that Brad got to know and spend time with was Buck Owens. Brad recalls that in the early part of his career when he was in California, Brad and his crew would stop by Buck’s Crystal Palace to hang out and rest up. Brad says that has he career grew, he actually had to hide something from Buck…so he wouldn’t yell at Brad, “I used to drive up to Bakersfield for lunch…when I would be in California. We used to spend off days, if we were doing a California run in the early days we’d park the bus…this is funny story, we’d park the bus at the Crystal Palace, and go work out, use the gym, hang out, have lunch with Buck (Owens), maybe sit in with his that night if he was playing. Than as my career grew, and we went from one bus to four, or five, or something…I would have to hide the other buses. Because Buck didn’t understand the waste of money of multiple buses. So, one of his managers would say ‘Leave the other buses on the other side of town, because of, if Buck knows that you’re running five buses down the road, he’s going to chastise you and tell you that you’re just wasting money.’ Because Buck was mister frugal. So what was funny, is you’d have twenty guys eating at the Crystal Palace, and he’d be like ‘All these guys on one bus!'” We think Buck would have been real happy with how Brad’s career has flourished…even with all the extra buses.
You can check out Brad Paisley yourself as he’ll be appearing on a couple of NBC shows this week. Tuesday night Brad will appear on Late Night With Seth Meyers, and on Friday Brad will The Today Show as a part of their Citi Concert Series on Today. Then Brad will co-host Today’s 9:00 AM hour with Al Roker and Sheinelle Jones.
