At this year’s Billboard Music Awards, Kenny Chesney walked away a double winner in the categories of Top Country Tour, and Top Country Collaboration for his number-one song with P!nk, “Setting The World On Fire”–which is from his Cosmic Hallelujah album. Of course, Kenny being the top touring act is no surprise to his fans, who know that Kenny puts everything he has into his shows. Over the years, Kenny has crafted his live performance, and realizes no two shows, or venues, can be treated the same “It’s two different animals, playing a smaller venue and playing a football stadium. It took me awhile to mentally prepare myself to do my job in a football stadium. It took me awhile to mentally cover the room, if that’s what you want to call it (laughs), you know, because I was so used to playing…you know, when I first started, it was me and a guitar, a tip jar, and then I went on the road with Alabama, and then I went on the road with some of these acts, and all of a sudden, I was in an arena, and I had to get used to that. And then, all of a sudden, I was doin’ it myself, and then we went from the arenas into the amphitheaters into the stadiums, and it’s just…it’s just a different animal. But it’s something that, when it’s magic, it’s great. When you can make a football stadium feel like a club, there’s no better feeling than that.” When it comes to his winning number-one hit, Kenny had no doubt who he wanted singing with him, “After I recorded ‘Setting The World On Fire,’ and after I lived with it for a little while, I realize I needed a woman’s voice to be in the song with me, and Pink’s voice holds so many feelings. When I hear her sing, I hear joy, I hear want, a bit of toughness, and a little bit of hurt. To me that’s the mark of a great singer, and a great vocalist…someone that can make you feel all those things at once, and I’ve always really respected her and loved her singing, and I guess it’s because when I hear Pink sing, I truly believe what she’s saying to me.” Congrats to Kenny, and P!nk!
