Maren Morris is getting ready for the CMAs in two weeks where she has five nominations…in the categories of Female Vocalist Of The Year, Album Of The Year (HERO), Single Of The Year (“My Church”), Song Of The Year (“My Church”), and New Artist. A lot of her personal success Maren attributes to her strongest instrument…her voice. She says that her voice actually helps her in the process of writing songs like her top ten hit “My Church,” and her current single “80s Mercedes.” But when it comes to her performance on her CMA nominated album, HERO, she credits her producer busbee. Maren says that he pushed her “to sing even higher notes than I ever thought I could hit in my register, but he’s great about that because you know it’s a good sort of challenge.” It’s meeting that challenge that makes Maren so proud of her album…and it also probably helped with the nominations too. Check out the CMA Awards, which will be celebrating their 50th year, on ABC on Wednesday, November 2nd, live from Nashville, Tennessee.
Maren Morris talks about her voice and her CMA nominated album HERO. (:43)
“I just love singing, I think my strongest instrument is my voice…like, that’s I hear melodies more than anything and I feel like my voice is always been sort of my tether to songwriting. So, on this record I definitely stretch myself, and I feel like in the studio with busbee…what’s so great about him is he’s pushing me to sing even higher notes than I ever thought I could hit in my register, but he’s great about that because you know it’s a good sort of challenge. But, some of the notes that are being hit on songs like ‘My Church,’ and ‘Once’ at the very end of the record…I mean it is the highest I think I’ve ever sung. I think we went places that challenged us, and that’s why we’re so proud of it now.”
