Congrats to Chris Young! His song “Sober Saturday Night” is the number-one song in country music this week. This trip to the top spot is special for several reasons…first, it’s not only a number-one song for Chris, but for Vince Gill too. Chris shares that Vince is “just a true class act and obviously a legend. So having him on one of my songs and having my name next to his means a whole lot and it was really fun to call him Saturday morning when we had a really good idea it was going to be number one.” “Sober Saturday Night” is the 9th number-one of Chris Young’s career, and the third straight song off his I’m Comin’ Over album to top the charts. And of the journey to get there…Chris jokes “I mean this is my ninth number one and I don’t think it ever gets old. But especially with this one just cause it took so long. It was the longest run up to number one that I’ve ever had and ‘Think of You’ is the fastest.”
Chris Young talks about the special connections he has to his latest number-one song “Sober Saturday Night.” (:49)
“I mean it feels pretty incredible. I mean this is my ninth number one and I don’t think it ever gets old. But especially with this one just cause it took so long. It was the longest run up to number one that I’ve ever had and ‘Think of You’ is the fastest. So coming into this one, I was just like man I love this song so much, I had so much fun writing it with the Warren Brothers. Obviously awesome to bring Vince in and have him on the song. There were just so many things that were really special about this. I thought it was a really powerful song. It took a while, but it found its place. It’s definitely been one of those where as its climbed, you’ve seen people just start reacting more and more live at shows and a lot of people talking about how much they love it. It’s been a really cool ride. If it was a long one, it’s still been really awesome to see it get to number one.”
Chris Young at first jokes about helping out Vince Gill get to number-one with the song “Sober Saturday Night,” but then Chris gets serious about explaining how awesome Vince is. (:64)
“Vince I’m going to help you out…I’m going to get you in on this rec…no he is amazing. He is literally one of my favorite people and just getting to know somebody that you have looked up to for a long time…sometimes that’s a really scary proposition cause you are like what if they don’t live up to your expectations of really what that person… you have put them up here on this pedestal and I just look up to them and think they are going to be so great and then you have no idea what they are going to be like in person. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. He surpassed anything that I could have guessed. I’ve heard what a great guy he is and what a great musician he is but being in the room with him and getting to work on albums, getting to go to different events, getting to play this song live on TV with him. He is just a true class act and obviously a legend. So having him on one of my songs and having my name next to his means a whole lot and it was really fun to call him Saturday morning when we had a really good idea it was going to be number one. I called and he was out on the road and just getting to celebrate that, I can’t wait for the number one party. I am making sure that he goes to that. (laugh)”
