Cam‘s new single “Mayday,” much like her number-one song “Burning House,” tackles the downside of a relationship. She thinks the lyrics represent the uncomfortable conversations that people do not have when they are in a relationship, that they know they shouldn’t be in. Cam joked with co-writer Tyler Johnson that dark relationship songs is “what we do.”  Tyler was one of the producers of Cam’s album, Untamed, and co-wrote 8 of the 11 tracks with Cam, including “Mayday” and “Burning House.”

“Both Tyler and I had relationships that were very much like that. I think, just what it represents that feeling of being in…you’re in a situation that you know you should want more but you’re afraid this is as good as it’s going to get. I feel like that feeling is something that everybody knows and that’s…I’m really proud that we tapped into something that’s probably not comfortable talk about, but…go figure, this is what we do, right? (laugh) another dark one, but it’s something that I feel like everybody knows that feeling when you start talking about and start singing about it.”
