Kane Brown‘s first major label EP, called Chapter 1, is available now! The 5 song EP features music written by Kane, and among others, Chris Young and Corey Crowder (who just happen to be the two guys responsible for Chris’ I’m Comin’ Over album–which is nominated for Album of Year at this year’s ACM Awards) . Chris is one of Kane’s music idols, and he can’t believe that not only did he get to write with him, but Kane says that he and Chris Young are now friends too. Life has been moving fast for Kane since he signed his label deal a few short months ago, and while things are a little crazy right now, he says that it’s a dream come true.

“Chris is a great songwriter. ‘There Goes My Everything,’ we literally finished that song probably in 45 minutes. It’s crazy because I never in a million years thought I would be there with my idol, and now, we’re friends that hang out on a regular basis, and we get to work together. So it’s just crazy how quick things change and I love every bit of it.”

“‘Wide Open’ is one of my favorite songs I’ve written, I wrote it with Corey Crowder that also wrote ‘Last Minute Late Night.’ Pretty much just a small town, which I grew up in, and you know we never had anything to do, so you’re always going to hang out in the Walmart parking lot. So, that’s what the song’s about, just being from a small town hanging out in the Walmart parking lot, and we used to always go to Aetna Mud, which is a Mountain in Chattanooga. We would hold of gas pedal wide open. So that’s pretty much what it’s about, it’s talking about a girl that likes to go wherever I go as long as we’re holding the gas pedal wide open. Like she’s meant for the fast lane.”

“‘Used To Love You Sober’ is about this heartbroken dude, that he used to love her to death and now that she’s gone he can’t get off his mind. So, he drinks and he just keeps drinking so he doesn’t have to keep thinking about the girl anymore. To me it’s heartfelt because I know there are a lot of people to go through it. I’ve have so many people come up to me and tell me that it touches them in so many ways. It’s just… I love the song and I’m glad I wrote it.”

“When I heard it, it was this fast up tempo song but it was meaningful, like you were taking this girl out on a date. It was just so me, and I was like yes I want this song. We ended up making it sound more like me. So now it’s just a fast pace, but slow at the same time, sexy song”

“‘Excuses is about a relationship that went bad, and it’s all because the girl, or the guy in a girls situation, they kept throwing out excuses, and it just ruined the relationship.”

“‘There Goes My Everything’ was Chris Young’s idea. It was my first song that I got to write with him. He came in, had the title, I said I liked it. Another good thing is, I could see Chris Young singing the song, so honestly when we ended up writing the song, he sang it back to me and I got cold chills and everything. It’s just about…pretty much you wake up beside your woman, she’s going putting her make up on and you watch her, and she’s leaving to go to work and when she leaves the door… You know, there goes you everything. So you don’t know what to do for the rest of the day, you just like dang she’s not here. Or if ya’ll go to a party and she goes to hang out with her friends or is talking to somebody, you watch her from across the room. Doesn’t matter what she is wearing, you love her and she’s your everything.”
