Newcomer Maren Morris hits the airwaves later this month with her debut single, “My Church,” but Maren has already been turning heads with fans and the music media with her self-titled EP, which came out in November. Rolling Stone ranked Maren’s “My Church” among its “25 Best Country Songs of 2015,” and this week, USA Today named Maren to its all-genre list of “5 Musicians to Watch Out for in 2016.” With these and a wealth of other media accolades even before her first single, Maren says it’s a crazy, humbling feeling to already have so much praise coming her way. Maren Morris says it’s a crazy and wonderful feeling to be included on “best of” and “artist to watch” lists so early in her career. (:33)
“It’s bizarre. I feel like I’ve been a reader of these publications and seen friends of mine be on these lists, and I’ve always just been kind of an onlooker of people’s rise, so it’s very surreal to be in the driver’s seat now. I feel really blessed to be mentioned in conversation with other artists that I idolize and I respect and I’m inspired by. So I feel like it’s been a fun few months (laughs) getting to be a part of all of this.”
