Cam says that the best way to listen to her new album is to turn it up! (:34)
“Turn it up! (laughs) Make sure you get to hear everything. There’s sound design of crickets, ice cubes in whiskey in a glass, there’s the crackle of the burning house — all those sounds are in there, and then there’s so many layers, and there’s so much space to it. Each instrument gets room to sort of be the color it is and just have its own space. But I think the main thing is to just…the more listens you can give, or the more attention you can give, there’s so much that the album is going to give you.”
Cam talks about the title track to her Untamed album. (:36)
“Untamed is such a perfect title because that song that starts off the album, it just starts on this warm night, and you hear this train coming, and it’s just like, the party is coming. And the song is about how you go to this place in the woods the cops don’t know about — and maybe it was the woods or by the river or whatever it was for you guys in your hometown — but you’re going to this spot to just be with your friends, doing what you want to do, living by your own rules. And you’re not trying to be rebels, you just want to be yourself.”
Cam talks about her album title. (:06)
“Untamed means there’s gonna be some crazy stuff on there, but it’s also just this big, wild ride.”
Staying true to herself was key to the making of Cam’s album, Untamed. (:33)
“Being who you are, and being the unique version of yourself — which sometimes feels really scary — that is the reason you were put here. That is the best thing that you can be. You being yourself empowers other people to be themselves, and it’s just…it’s such a fun time. And that’s kind of what this whole album — the process of making this album was with my friends, and we all just were ourselves. And we just made it how we wanted to make it. And that’s the coolest part about it I think that it’s so different.”
Cam may be proud of her album, but she’s still nervous to see what listeners think about it! (:15)
“This album — I wouldn’t change anything. I’m very picky, and I’ve got it exactly to where I want it. So I feel like I’ve really accomplished something already. And then the other part of me is (laughs) definitely very nervous to find out how people feel about it.”
Cam responds to her GRAMMY Award nomination for Best Country Solo Performance for “Burning House.” (:13)
“I did a show in Vegas, and I woke up, and instead of winning the literal jackpot, I woke up to the figurative jackpot of being nominated for Best Country Solo Performance for ‘Burning House.’ Crazy!”
