CHRIS YOUNG: Keeping It Simple…

audio

Chris Young has written a number of his own big hits — including songs like “Tomorrow” and “Gettin’ You Home,” among others — but he’s always open to recording a great song, even if it isn’t one that he wrote. But when it comes to those songs, Chris says that what catches his ear is often…simplicity! (AUDIO INFO BELOW)

  • Chris is on the radio now with a very cool single that he didn’t write: it’s the song, “Lonely Eyes,” the newest favorite from Chris’ A.M. album, which also includes the hits “Aw Naw” and “Who I Am with You.”
  • This week, Chris and Lee Brice kick off the first dates of their new co-headlining tour, with shows currently scheduled into March. Check out the events page of ChrisYoungCountry.com for more info!

audio  Chris Young says that great songs often have a “brilliant simplicity” to them. (:38)
“Yeah, I think that’s why I end up cutting stuff I don’t write is when I hear it, and I’m like, ‘Pfffff! I could have written this! Man, why didn’t I think of that before?’ It’s just that brilliant simplicity 90% of the time is what makes a great song. Usually, it’s not anything that’s so overly complicated and complex, and to me, some of the best country songs especially, ever, are the ones that are just obvious. They’ve been sittin’ there in front of everybody for years and years and years, and someone writes it down. You can take pretty much any super-classic big hit — it’d be like ‘I Swear.’ So, the hook of that song is ‘I swear on everything that I’ll be with you’ — and that’s the wedding song of all time. There you go!” (laughs)
