Carrie Underwood appeared on NBC’s Today show this morning, where she announced that on December 9th, she’ll be releasing her very first hits collection, titled Greatest Hits: Decade #1. Celebrating her first decade in music since winning American Idol, Carrie’s album — with a final track listing to be announced — will pull from her 18 number-one hits and also include new material, which kicks off with the September 29th release of the first single, a song that Carrie co-wrote called “Something in the Water.” Carrie says that she’s thrilled to be getting some new music out to her fans, and she really hopes that “Something in the Water” will touch listeners in the same way that it affects her. “‘Something in the Water,’” more than anything I hope that people are inspired, you know? It’s joyous, it’s glorious; I just want people to smile. I can’t help but smile. I hate listening to myself (laughs), but this is definitely one that it’s kind of like as soon as I got it, I’m in my car and, you know, wanting to play it again because it just…it made me joyful. It made me happy.”

“I’m very excited to have new music out. It feels like it’s…I like having my space, you know, and being able to figure out where I want to go, and things can really start running together after a while if you don’t just give yourself time to live a little bit and to write a little bit and to figure out what the new sound is gonna be. But it’s time, and I’m really excited, and I’m excited that, you know, ‘Something in the Water’ is coming out this time of year, kind of such a magical, magical time. So I’m very excited. I can’t wait for everybody to hear it.”
