Tyler Farr had a terrific 2013 with the release of his Redneck Crazy album, his first number-one hit with the Platinum-certified title track, and a whole lot more, all of which earned him a place among the semi-finalists for this year’s Academy of Country Music New Artist of the Year award. When we caught up with Tyler, he said that he feels very fortunate to be in the running alongside some other very talented artists, including his good buddy and fellow New Artist contender, Lee Brice. Tyler Farr talks about being nominated for ACM New Artist of the Year as he teases his good buddy and fellow nominee Lee Brice. (:25)
“You know, to be nominated for anything is always huge, a new artist of the year, I got some tough competition I’ll tell ya that, ’cause there’s a lot of my buddies in that category, which makes it…you know, Lee Brice is in the category (laughs) — and we have the same manager. I’m like, ‘Now how does this work? Explain to me how this works. Lee, you just get out of my category, and I’ll vote for you for Song of the Year.'”
Tyler Farr says that, awards notwithstanding, he feels very blessed to be making music for a living. (:18)
“It’s a blessin’ just to be doin’ what we’re doin’, so that’s what I focus on, and that’s what I’ll continue to focus on, and if we win some awards on the way, then hallelujah, praise Jesus. If not, then we’ll keep makin’ songs, and you know, hopefully Lee Brice’ll be out of the new artist category next year — maybe I’ll have a chance.” (laughs)
