Jake Owen may be a chart-topping singer out headlining his own tour, but while his job may be pretty awesome, Jake says that one of the things he loves the most is having fans tell him how they relate to a song he’s written — because while being a performer may have it’s cool points, being able to feel like one of the crowd — and knowing that the things he feels and writes and sings are connecting with listeners — is something that really means a lot to Jake. (AUDIO INFO BELOW)
- Jake is currently all over the airwaves with a song that he co-wrote called “The One That Got Away” — the newest smash single from the album that’s launched two consecutive number-one hits with “Alone with You” and the album title-track, “Barefoot Blue Jean Night.”
- And just last week, Jake was announced as a performer on the upcoming American Country Awards, where he’s up for four awards, including Artist of the Year: Breakthrough Artist, as well as Single of the Year: Breakthrough Artist, Music Video of the Year, and Music Video: Male — the latter three for his number-one smash, “Alone with You.” Catch Jake on the big show when it airs at 8pm, ET, December 10th, on FOX.

Jake Owen talks about connecting through songwriting. (:51)
“When people come up to me and say, ‘Man, that song you wrote…’ — whatever song it is — ‘…is the story of my life,’ it just puts a smile on my face because, when I sit down to write a song, I don’t ever write it thinking, ‘Okay, this…so and so’s gonna walk up to me and tell me that.’ I just write it because I think it feels good to me. And if it feels good to me, hopefully it’ll feel good to someone else. But when you get that compliment that, ‘Man, that song you wrote just fits my life perfectly,’ it really makes me feel more or less like I’m just like everybody else, you know? I feel like I live the same things, feel the same feelings, I get excited and happy about a lot of the same things that other people do, and it’s just nice to feel like just another one of the crowd. ‘Cause sometimes this business tends to make you feel like you’re somehow a little different than someone else, and I don’t…I’ve never felt any different than anyone. I’m just the guy with the guitar and the microphone singin’. Otherwise, if I didn’t have that, I’d be out in the crowd, too, drinkin’ beer.”
